For more than two decades, criminal defense attorney Heidi F. Eakin worked as the top trial attorney in the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, serving as First Assistant District Attorney and supervising the office's sexual assault unit, before joining Costopoulos, Foster & Fields Attorneys At Law, in Lemoyne, PA in 2008.
As a prosecutor, Eakin tried more than 250 jury cases and earned jury convictions in dozens of homicide cases. As a defense attorney, Eakin has maintained her passionate pursuit of justice, using her knowledge of prosecutorial techniques to her client's advantage.
Since joining Costopoulos, Foster & Fields Attorneys At Law, Eakin has successfully defended several high-profile clients. Most recently she convinced prosecutors to withdraw charges against a district judge accused of disorderly conduct, and helped clear the name of an elementary school teacher who was accused of sexual abuse of children by earning acquittals against all charges leveled against him.
Eakin's background makes her an expert in appeals and negotiations with prosecutors. In one recent case, her legal insight forced prosecutors to ease a plea agreement for a bereaved local doctor accused of inadvertently causing the death of his son. Her negotiation skills convinced the District Attorney in the case to reduce the charge from a felony to a misdemeanor, giving the doctor his life back, and bring some closure to his family.
Eakin earned her Juris Doctorate from the Dickinson School of Law in 1985 and is admitted to argue before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the Middle District of the United States District Court.
In 1999, she helped establish the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) program to give victims of domestic violence a safe haven from abuse.
